What is Muhurta?
Muhurta literally means “moment” or “auspicious time window.” In Vedic astrology, a muhurta is a specific period of the day considered especially favorable for starting important activities. All five below are calculated from your location’s actual sunrise/sunset, not fixed clock times.
The 5 Daily Muhurta Timings
| Muhurta | Timing | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Brahma Muhurta | Sunrise − 3 hours to sunrise | Meditation, yoga, studying sacred texts |
| Pratah Sandhya | Sunrise ± 24 minutes | Bathing, morning worship, starting the day |
| Abhijit Muhurta | Solar noon ± 24 minutes | Contracts, inaugurations, victory-related activities |
| Sayam Sandhya | Sunset ± 24 minutes | Evening worship, completion of tasks |
| Nitya Pradosham | Sunset − 90 min to sunset + 30 min | Lord Shiva worship, evening ceremonies |
Solar noon is the midpoint between sunrise and sunset for your location, not a fixed 12:00 PM.
